This is a class that teaches a machine free, gadget free, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Since this is a craft, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The “Art” part is in the selection of color combinations.
The first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials, needles, thread, thimble, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night’s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. There will be plenty of time for questions.

You may start a 3′ X 5′ rug or a 10″ X 16″ place mat. Either will give you the knowledge and experience to make as many rugs as your heart desires!
First class takes place on Tuesday, April 9 at 1pm to 2pm. We will take a one week break to allow time to purchase materials. The following 4 classes will be on Tuesdays; April 23, 30, May 7, 14 at 1pm to 3:30pm. (She will also be offering an evening class at 6pm to 8:30pm on the same dates.)

Wool Braided Rug Workshop https://laurelarts.org/event/wool-braided-rug-workshop-5/2024-05-14/ Tue, 14 May 2024 22:00:00 +0000 https://laurelarts.org/?post_type=tribe_events&eventDate=2024-05-14#038;p=28497 Instructor Lisa Meyers will be offering another one of her beautiful rug making classes this spring. This is a class that teaches a machine free, gadget free, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory, mankind has always recycled. These rugs, when cared for properly, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug.
***Please do not buy any materials ahead of this lesson. After the information session in the first week, students will be responsible for purchasing any materials needed for the project. This is not included in the class fee.
You may start a 3′ X 5′ rug or a 10″ X 16″ place mat. Either will give you the knowledge and experience to make as many rugs as your heart desires!
First class takes place on Tuesday, April 9 at 6pm to 7pm. We will take a one week break to allow time to purchase materials. The following 4 classes will be on Tuesdays; April 23, 30, May 7, 14 at 6pm to 8:30pm. (She will also be offering an afternoon class at 1pm to 3:30pm on the same dates.)
Cost for the class is $65 nonmembers/$52 members. Fees for materials are not included in the cost.
Preregistration is required. Our payment policy requires students to pay 50% of the total tuition and materials upon registration. This is non-refundable. Call Laurel Arts at 814-443-1835 or text/call 814-442-6217 to register.
Class takes place at 601 Georgian Place, Somerset.
