The Philip Dressler Center for the Arts is pleased to present the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors (SOS) in Somerset! The SoS is celebrating its 90th year! In 1935 the first SOS open juried exhibition received national attention in Time magazine. SOS has fulfilled its mission to bring together sculptors and to promote high standards of sculpture in the Pittsburgh area. As one of the founding organizations to form the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in 1945 (then the Center for Arts and Crafts) SOS has been the only guild to promote sculpture exclusively and encourage new talent nationally and regionally.

Juror’s Statement:

Performing the duties of a judge is never a cake walk – or at least it should never be approached that way. I’ve endeavored to acknowledge my own prejudices during this process. I’m a firm believer in diversity in all its forms: diversity of medium, differences in style, divergent subjects, and level of rawness vs highly polished. This was a blind judging, so I did not know who each artist was/is. What a treat to see these terrific artworks! Wonderful, interesting, fun, engaging. I think this will be an exciting and worthwhile exhibition!
