About the Laurel Arts Clay Artists: The Laurel Arts Clay Artists formed as a group in 2018 out of a collective desire to give back to the community through their love of art and pottery. All members of the group are practicing artists and members of the Laurel Arts Gallery Committee, and have devoted countless hours to arts advocacy, education, and volunteer work.

Throughout the year, the Laurel Arts Clay Artists meet weekly to create pottery for their annual “Soup ‘er Bowl” event which is patterned after the international Empty Bowls Dinner movement. This idea originated in 1990 from a Michigan art teacher whose students created clay bowls for a fundraiser. Each attendee was served a simple meal and encouraged to take home an empty bowl as a reminder that hunger exists in our world. The Laurel Arts Clay Artists have held over ten clay-themed fundraisers over the years, with the motto of “soup feeds the body, art feeds the soul.”
