SUMMARY:Wool Braided Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor Lisa Meyers will be offering another one of her beautiful rug making classes! This is a class that teaches a machine free\, gadget free\, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory\, mankind has always recycled. These rugs\, when cared for properly\, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug. Since this is a craft\, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The “Art” part is in the selection of color combinations.\nThe first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials\, needles\, thread\, thimble\, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night’s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. There will be plenty of time for questions.\n***Please do not buy any materials ahead of this lesson. After the information session in the first week\, students will be responsible for purchasing any materials needed for the project. All materials are provided. You’ll leave with a set of beautiful\, handmade cards.\n\nWorkshop 2: Coasters-Transform marble coasters into custom\, one-of-a-kind works of art using alcohol inks. Participants will make a set of 4 coasters while learning how to use alcohol ink with marble.\n\nWorkshop 3: Light Switch Plates-Do you find your plain old light switch covers a little boring? Now is your chance to learn how to add a pop of color into any room with this fun alcohol ink activity!\n\nWorkshop 4: Get festive by crafting vibrant ornaments with alcohol inks. Perfect for holiday decorations or unique gifts\, you’ll learn how to apply inks to clear plastic ornaments.\n\nEach workshop includes all necessary materials and tools. Just bring an apron or wear old clothing! Disposable gloves will be provided. Held at Laurel Arts Dance Center at 601 Georgian Place\, Somerset.\n\nCost: $90 nonmembers/ $72 members\, plus $30 for supplies.Dates: Every other Thursday; November 7 & 21\, December 5 & 19\nYou can also choose to take just one of the workshops. The cost would be $25 nonmembers/ $20 members plus $10 materials.\n*Please note: You must take the first workshop as a prerequisite.\nPreregistration is required.
