DESCRIPTION:Join instructor Cortney Himes for this workshop as she continues to teach students her popular stained glass skills. During this 3 week workshop\, students will learn the basic steps in cutting\, soldering\, and creating beautiful stained glass pieces. In the 3 weeks\, participants will work on completing their choice of 2 stained glass pieces that are pictured – perfect for Halloween! Students will be asked to make their selections when they register so supplies can be purchased. DESCRIPTION:Come make a beautiful rock paper butterfly! \nJoin paper artist Wendy Bale as she takes you step by step through embossing and painting your own realistic rock paper monarch butterfly. In this introduction to Rock Paper you will learn about the unique qualities of this durable mineral paper—yes\, it is really made from rocks! While we’re crafting\, we’ll discuss Monarch butterfly facts and trivia. No drawing skills required\, everyone gets a pattern to trace. Your finished butterfly can be displayed inside or outdoors. Suitable for adults and young people able to handle sharp scissors and a fine point pen. All tools and supplies will be provided.\nThis is a FREE class\, however\, pre-registration is still required. This class will be held in the GAP Archive Room on the 2nd floor of the Dressler Center. There are stairs required to access the GAP Archive Room.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWendy Bale is a multi-disciplinary nature artist in Jamestown\, New York. Her work showcases the environments found in Western New York and Pennsylvania. She uses various mediums—primarily focused on drawing and sculpture— to create her pieces based on her experiences in nature.\n\n“I come home from time in the field and usually already know what medium the subject is asking to be. Sometimes a mushroom wants to be ceramic\, or a pattern in the field screams to be a paper cut. Rock Paper has become one of my go-to materials and I love teaching people about this versatile paper. Regardless the medium I’m using\, my joy is to connect with the viewer through the mutual love of favorite subjects.”\n\nWendy is a member of Guild of American Papercutters\, International Online Art Collective and the North Shore Arts Alliance. SUMMARY:Wool Braided Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor Lisa Meyers will be offering another one of her beautiful rug making classes! This is a class that teaches a machine free\, gadget free\, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory\, mankind has always recycled. These rugs\, when cared for properly\, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug. Since this is a craft\, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The “Art” part is in the selection of color combinations.\nThe first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials\, needles\, thread\, thimble\, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night’s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. There will be plenty of time for questions.\n***Please do not buy any materials ahead of this lesson. After the information session in the first week\, students will be responsible for purchasing any materials needed for the project. This is not included in the class fee.\nYou may start a 3′ X 5′ rug or a 10″ X 16″ place mat. Either will give you the knowledge and experience to make as many rugs as your heart desires!\nFirst class takes place on Tuesday\, October 15 at 6pm to 7pm. We will take a one week break to allow time to purchase materials. The following 4 classes will be on Tuesdays; October 29\, November 5\, 12\, 19 at 6pm to 8:30pm.\nCost for the class is $65 nonmembers/$52 members. SUMMARY:Wool Braided Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor Lisa Meyers will be offering another one of her beautiful rug making classes! This is a class that teaches a machine free\, gadget free\, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory\, mankind has always recycled. These rugs\, when cared for properly\, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug. Since this is a craft\, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The “Art” part is in the selection of color combinations.\nThe first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials\, needles\, thread\, thimble\, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night’s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. There will be plenty of time for questions.\n***Please do not buy any materials ahead of this lesson. After the information session in the first week\, students will be responsible for purchasing any materials needed for the project. This is not included in the class fee.\nYou may start a 3′ X 5′ rug or a 10″ X 16″ place mat. Either will give you the knowledge and experience to make as many rugs as your heart desires!\nFirst class takes place on Tuesday\, October 15 at 6pm to 7pm. We will take a one week break to allow time to purchase materials. The following 4 classes will be on Tuesdays; October 29\, November 5\, 12\, 19 at 6pm to 8:30pm.\nCost for the class is $65 nonmembers/$52 members.
