SUMMARY:Wool Braided Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor Lisa Meyers will be offering another one of her beautiful rug making classes over the summer! This is a class that teaches a machine free\, gadget free\, ancient method of making braided rugs. Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory\, mankind has always recycled. These rugs\, when cared for properly\, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug. Since this is a craft\, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The “Art” part is in the selection of color combinations.The first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials\, needles\, thread\, thimble\, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night’s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. There will be plenty of time for questions.***Please do not buy any materials ahead of this lesson. After the information session in the first week\, students will be responsible for purchasing any materials needed for the project. This is not included in the class fee.You may start a 3′ X 5′ rug or a 10″ X 16″ place mat. Either will give you the knowledge and experience to make as many rugs as your heart desires!\nFirst class takes place on Tuesday\, July 16 at 6pm to 7pm. We will take a one week break to allow time to purchase materials. If there is interest\, we will take a trip to Pittsburgh to shop at some thrift stores there. The following 4 classes will be on Tuesdays; July 30\, August 6\, 13\, and 20 at 6pm to 8:30pm.\nCost for the class is $65 nonmembers/$52 members. Fees for materials are not included in the cost.Preregistration is required. Our payment policy requires students to pay 50% of the total tuition and materials upon registration. This is non-refundable. SUMMARY:Summer Cooking Series - Water Bath Canning
DESCRIPTION:Laurel Arts and Instructor Elizabeth Miller will be offering cooking classes on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 2pm to 4pm\, in collaboration with the SOCO Farmers Market. Each class will feature ingredients from one or more vendors.\nThe Water Bath Canning class takes place on Saturday\, August 10 at 2pm to 4pm at 601 Georgian Place\, Somerset.\nThe class will include how to use the water bath canning method to preserve fresh vegetables to enjoy later. We will be canning apples and salsa. Fresh produce will be used from Double Ease Gardens.\nCost: $25 nonmembers/$20 members plus a $20 materials fee all payable to Laurel Arts.\nPreregistration is required at least 1 week before each class. Cortney recently taught a resin class here at Laurel Arts and also works with linoprints\, sculpting\, painting\, and more! During this 3 week workshop\, students will learn the basic steps in cutting\, soldering\, and creating a beautiful stained glass piece.
