This time she will be teaching Needle Felting. This art form is a dry felting technique that uses a barbed needle to repeatedly poke and tangle wool fibers together, shaping them into a solid form. In this workshop, students will learn how to create a beautiful 4×6 Spring scene on felt. No experience is necessary to get started and all ages are welcome.

A Junk Journal is a “book which is often made through found and recycled materials to be used as a way to collect and record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration”. Students will learn tips to create beautiful pages full of memories. Each participant will receive a journal and access to supplies such as paper, stickers, tapes, etc. Feel free to bring supplies of your own to add to your page.

“Hi! I’m Casey, a local artist passionate about creating handmade art. I’m a former biologist turned artist and the owner of Samaran Selkie, my small art business dedicated to sharing the beauty of nature through creative expression. My work is inspired by my deep love for the natural world, and I enjoy sharing that passion through painting, printmaking, clay creations, and jewelry making. I have showcased my artwork at several local galleries including Laurel Arts, Bottle Works, and had my own solo art show at Composition Art and Wine. I’m excited to welcome you to this workshop and help you create your own unique piece of wearable art!”
What to Expect: Join me for a fun and creative workshop where you’ll design and paint your very own polymer clay necklace pendant! I’ll provide a variety of handmade pendants in different shapes and colors, along with paints, palettes, and tiny detail brushes. You can follow along with my guided demonstration or create your own unique artwork. After the session, I’ll varnish your finished piece to protect it and add your choice of a braided necklace cord or chain. Keychains are also available, if you prefer. Pendants will be ready for pick up the following week — A beautiful, personalized accessory made by you!

She will be teaching Watercolor for Beginners. If you have always wanted to give it a try, this is a great introduction to the art. Students will learn color mixing, watercolor application, salt, alcohol, crayon resist, and erasing. Participants will also learn gradients. The last 20 minutes students will get to apply their skills to their own individual projects.

I’ll provide the block, carving tools, and everything necessary to print your hand carved design. You can follow along with my guided demonstration or create your own unique artwork. When our session is complete, you will have your very own personalized block (or stamp) for printing that you can use again and again at home: all you will need is an ink pad or printmaking ink, and some paper or clothing that you’d like to adorn with your stamp!

]]> Pysanky Egg Workshop https://laurelarts.org/event/pysanky-egg-workshop-5/ Sat, 28 Mar 2026 18:00:00 +0000 https://laurelarts.org/?post_type=tribe_events&p=33347 Pysanky is a traditional craft originally done in Ukraine and Poland. Join instructor, Alicia Shussett, as she helps you to create one of these beautiful eggs. Students will learn to add patterns using the traditional method involving wax and various colors of dye. This class is just in time to decorate or to make a gift for someone special for Easter. The instructor will add a special protectant to the eggs after the class. They will be ready for pick up on Tuesday, March 31.

The class takes place at 601 Georgian Place, Somerset on Saturday, March 28 at 2pm to 4pm.

The fee is $45 non-members/$36 members payable to Laurel Arts plus a $10 materials fee.
