If anyone thinks working for a non-profit arts
center is slow paced and boring, they need to stop byand spend a day at the Dressler Center and Laurel Arts. There are so many projects and programs that are eitherunderway or in the works. It is truly amazing what goes on at Somerset County’s art center!
Art Camps kicked off in early June with 14 campers exploring Art Around the World. Over
the next two months, 16 different camp opportunities are available in Somerset,Berlin,
Meyersdale, Boswell and Windber. These include options for preschoolers through high
school seniors in everything from art and dance to theater and circus arts. It is not too late to register and participate. Call 443-2433 today to get your child enrolled!
If you are looking for an event to attend, we have several in store for July and August.
These include The Clarks concert on July 11, Somerfest July 17-19, and the Dorothy Dressler Memorial Golf Tournament on August 28. These events promise a wonderful time for all and help to raise funds to support your arts organization. Staff members have been busy taking calls for tickets, team entries, and general information about these events.
If that is not enough, Laurel Arts is moving along with the renovations to the new
Education & Dance Center. Wallboard is being hung, the electrical work has been roughed in, and the HVAC and plumbing are almost complete.

Finish work should begin in late June and be completed in time to open in August. The staff has been selecting dance floors, deciding on cabinets and furnishings, and purchasing essential supplies and materials. It will be a chaotic eight weeks, but we are determined to be ready for August!
The capital campaign has been going extremely well. As of June 12, Laurel Arts has
received 41 gifts and pledges totaling $273,516. This represents 27.3% of our campaign goal of $1,000,000. These initial donors are helping Laurel Arts’ dream become a reality. Additional campaign solicitations are in progress, and I look forward to keeping you updated in future
newsletters. If you would like to help with the campaign please give me a call at 443-2433.
All of these projects and activities are only made possible thanks to the hard work and
effort of a dedicated staff, Board of Directors, and many volunteers. This team is working very hard to make Laurel Arts a vibrant, active, and exciting organization. If you have some time and would like to join the experience give us a call. Or better yet, stop by and help by answering the phone, assisting in an art camp classroom, working the admission gate at Somerfest, teaching an art class ... so much to do!
