Holes by Louis Sachar
6 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 16
Stanley Yelnats is falsely arrested for stealing a pair of sneakers and is sentenced to a summer at Camp Green Lake. The “Camp” turns out to be a juvenile detention center in the middle of the desert where a cruel warden forces the boys to dig holes all day in search of treasure. Over the course of the summer, Stanley makes new friends, defeats new enemies and battles a very old curse on his family. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, this book deals with issues ranging from fate to friendship.
The Penderwicks by Jean Birdsall
6 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 27
The four Penderwick sisters were very excited to find they would be spending the summer exploring a beautiful estate called Arundel, filled with mysterious and interesting things. The best discovery of all is Jeffrey, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion
for their adventures. But, Jeffrey’s mother is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will ~ won’t they? |
